Deliberately Me!

A journey for those seeking contentment in a deliberate God

There's enough green for Him to multiple it...

I was going to wait to send this on the first day of April, but I was feeling led someone needed to hear this before then.

May you have a healthy month.

Welcome to the first day of April (in three days)!

While some of you are ecstatic about Spring, I am still wondering what happed to the first quarter of the year. I mean, did January, February, and March really show up and peace out already? I didn’t even get my full experience of snow!

Ok…moving on

This month’s blog and your action is to be still enough (and active) to see the green. For the green is still there, and He is still working with what’s left.

There’s enough green for Him to multiple it…if you remove the dark obstacles.

A few months back, I repotted my peace lily because it was dying. I gave it new fertilizer and a smaller pot. I watered it and by the next day it seemed back to its vibrant self. It appeared to be smiling and enjoying what I had done for it. But then after a month, it was drooping, and it seemed like all the leaves were turning black. One after the other.

I started wondering did I overwater it? Is the pot the right size? Did I put too much of the peace Lily concentrate? Like what is going on?! I even prayed and laid hands on this plant.

Hey…I am not kidding because I believe in the power of prayer OVER EVERYTHING!

But those leaves were still turning black. Towards the end of February I said, “Lee you are going to have to throw this plant out. It just seems to be dying and not getting better. Maybe I will just buy a new one.”

A quick backstory on this plant. My cousin bought me this plant almost 9 years ago as a housewarming gift. And this plant has flourished for almost 8 years. Always yielding beautiful lilies and outgrowing its original pot. Now fast forward to 2024 with it constantly on the struggle bus.

I don’t know about you, but I experience joy when I see my plants (people and things) thrive. There is a quiet peace to see nature do its thing. But my peace started to wane seeing this poor plant droop, turn from healthy to sick, and now watching it slowly decay.

I really began to lose hope for this plant…and honestly I wondered what did I do wrong?

But this week, I prepared myself mentally and said, “Lee you need to clean this plant up even though you plan on throwing it away.” So, I began to clean all the dead leaves out and around the pot. I picked one at a time and trimmed some of it. Then, what was interesting is as much of the plant I was throwing away. I began to notice there actually was healthy green (light) leaves thriving. They were just hidden by the dead ones (darkness).

And as always, in that moment the Lord said, “There is always light in the darkness. You just couldn’t see it.”

There’s enough green for Him to multiple it…if you remove the dark obstacles.

Now I am speaking directly to you reading this blog. What darkness are you experiencing? In what area are you about to give up? Change course? Throw out the plans?

Before you change course, pray and ask the Lord for guidance.

Ask Him, is there still enough green for Him to multiple it?

You see... one of problems as humans is we are nearsighted with a little astigmatism. We can only see a few things from a certain angle which causes us to miss the Light of Christ in ALL THINGS. John 1:4-5 (NLT) says, “The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”

My issue this week was more than the what appeared to be a dying peace lily. My struggle was I was allowing myself to only see darkness in places that actually have light (greenery).

How was I able to see the growing green leaves in the pot?

I was able to see once I removed the darkness covering the light.

Darkness can NEVER EXSTINGUISH THE LIGHT!

So, I ask you? Where do you need to clean up the dark places in your life?

Your home?

Your work environment?

Your work relationships?

Your family relationships?

Your time management?

Your health?

Your thoughts about yourself?

Your thoughts about other people?

Your thoughts about God?

If you are struggling with only seeing darkness. Perhaps it is because you have allowed dark obstacles to cloud your vision. Where you once used to prune and clean (time with the Lord), you have filled those spaces with other things.

If this is for you, I encourage you to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to clean out the darkness so the light can shine bright again. More importantly, the light of Christ cannot shine bright in and through you when it is being blocked by dark things around you.

May our Father remove the dark things in our lives which is keeping our light hidden. In Jesus name. Amen!
